For those of you who love the Lord of the Rings series and want to experience New Zealand, this is the tour for you. Happening in October 2020 to give you plenty of time to save up or make monthly payments. Maximum of 14 guests. We may be able to squeeze it up to 19 if we do get the nineteen we may be able to bring the price point down.
Day One October 20th we arrive in Auckland New Zealand. We will be met by a local guide and a coach will transfer to our hotel. Check in is at 3:00 pm so we may go and explore. We will be staying here for 3 nights. Dinner will be included at the hotel this evening. Breakfast will be provided every morning of the trip.
Day Two October 21st we will be picked up by a coach for your "Best of Both Worlds" tour. We will experience the best sights of Auckland City in the morning combined with an afternoon Wilderness Experience. Aukland is a set of 52 dormant volcanic cones and between two harbours, the sparkling Waitemata and the brooding Manukau. Know as he City of Sails, its New Zealand's largest and busiest city. The morning tour is a journey of discovery designed to explore the history and sights as well as how Aucklanders live and play. A 30 minute drive from downtown brings you to Arataki Centre, the gateway to the rain forest, where the sweeping decks give breathtaking panoramic views from the Tasman Sea tot he Pacific Ocean. Absorb the local history and admire the traditional Maori carvings that stand guard there. En-rout we will have the chance to purchase lunch, alternatively a boxed lunch can be requested at an additional cost. Head further west and experience the power of the wild and rugged west coast. Feel the black sand beneath our feet as we stroll along some of the most awe-inspiring beached the world has to offer. With our knowledgeable and experiences guide, our eco-tour continues on the lush rain forest where we will hear native birdsong as we walk the easy bush tracks amongst New Zealand's famous kauri tree and giant tree ferns. When the walk is done we had back to Auckland. Dinner is on our own this evening.
Day Three October 22nd we will make our way to the downtown ferry terminal for the public ferry to Waiheke Island. Our ticket is an pen ticket. On arrival to the islands we will be greeted by our tour driver and taken first to Stonyridge Vineyard for a tour and tastings, plus a scrumptious light lunch. We will then head to the award winning Ramgihoua Estate for olive tasting, followed by a stop at Wild on Waiheke, which offers optional beer tasting as well as wine. Here, we will also get to sample locally produced olive oils and preserves. The tour concludes with tastings at the beautiful Mudbrick Vineyard while enjoying stunning views over the Hauraki Gulf. We can then use our complimentary bus pass to further explore the islands and head back when we are ready to. Dinner is on your own. Both the guides and hotel staff will be able to give us great recommendations for local restaurants to try out
Day Four October 23rd we will be collected by private coach fr overland transfer to Rotorua where we will stay for two nights. Rotorua Waitomo will be our first stop where we will be taken on a 45 minute guided tour through the world famous Waitomo Glowworm Caves. We will complete the tour with an unforgettable boat ride through the Glowworm Grotto that is illuminated by thousands of tiny glowworms. We will get back on our coach and continue to visit Hobbiton. Discover the real Middle-earth on the most picturesque private farmland near Matamata in the North Island of New Zealand, where you can visit the Hobbiton Movie Set from the Lord of the Rings film trilogy in a fascinating two-hour guided tour. There are spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges from the rolling green hills of the movie set, which is still a working sheep and beef farm. As the Hobbiton Movie Set is located on a real New Zealand farm. we also will have an authentic and unforgettable Sheep farm experience. We will see how the shearer cleverly handles the sheep, plus take the opportunity to cuddle and bottle feed the pet lamb. We will enjoy lunch here. We will then head to our hotel and dinner is once again on our own.
Day Five October 24th We enjoy a day of sightseeing in Rotorua. Our first stop will be the Rainbow Springs, set on 22 acres of beautiful native trees and streams, Rainbow Springs is home to a huge variety of New Zealand's most precious inhabitants. We can enjoy walking through the many free flight aviaries, feed the biggest wild trout you will ever see, and come face to face with pre-history in he eyes of a Tuatara - a living dinosaur, watch New Zealand's own kiwi in their natural environment as they forage for food and admire the native New Zealand bush surroundings with over 90 different native plants, trees and ferns throughout the park. We will enjoy a 30 minute guided tour Behind the scenes Kiwi Encounter. See the Operation Nest Egg kiwi conservation project on action as we tour through the incubation, hatch and nursery rooms. We will re-board our private coach to visit Agrodome Farmshow. The World Famous Agrodome for an authentic farm experience. The sheep show will take us through a fascinating insight into the world of New Zealand agriculture. During this multi award winning show we will be entertained and informed as a real kiwi shearer (black singlet and all) presents 19 breeds of champion sheep, shears a sheep using the work record Bowen technique, works noisy Huntaway and silent Strong-Eyed dogs and completes the NZ dog trial. Have an opportunity to milk a cow and feed a lamb. We then continue to Te Puia for a guided tour. Te Puia is New Zealand's living Maori cultural centre, situated in Whakarewaewa Geothermal Valley. Te Puia's 60 hectare site is home to the New Zealand Maori Arts and Crafts Institue, a live kiwi enclosure, the world-famous Pohutu Geyser, and more than 500 geothermal wonders. With land steeped in ancestral history, and a guiding legacy that stretches back to the 1800s, Te Puia offers unique hospitality and rich cultural heritage. We then return to the hotel for some leisure time. In the evening we will be collected from our hotel this evening by a representative of Tamaki Tours for our combined Hangi (dinner) and Concert tour. Welcome to a world of ancient Maori and proud warriors - a world that unfolds with a journey back in time through the Maori village of "Te Tawa Nghare Pa". Experience the pre-European lifestyle and customs of the ancient Maoru ancestors as the village comes alive with tribal songs, dance and activities. Enjoy a night of truly authentic, traditional culture and entertainment. Feast on a selection of foods cooked the traditional Maori way on hot stones in an authentic earthen oven. The tour includes transport to and from the accommodation with coach commentary and Maori guide to instruct you on protocol.
Day six October 25th we will be collected from our hotel and taken to the Rotorua Airport where we will fly to Christchurch (this cost is not included in the land quote) We will be greeted and taken to our new hotel for the next 2 nights.
Day seven October 26th We will be collected from the hotel for our full day 4WD Lord of the Rings Edoras Tour. We will Journey to the Lord of the Rings filming location: remote and beautiful Mt Potts high country station, home of Mt Sunday. We will see how this peaceful mountain was transformed into Edora, the capital city of the Rohan people in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Immerse yourself in the natural, unspoiled beauty of this breathtaking area with its sparkling clear lakes, glistening blue rivers and fresh, crisp mountain air. We will enjoy a delicious champagne picnic lunch. Dinner is on our own this evening.
Day eight October 27th Today we will be collected and transfer to Queenstown. We cross the Canterbury Plains to Mount Cook, known by the Maori people as "Cloud Piercer", and then continue over the Lindis Pass through Beautiful landscapes to Queenstown. We stay 5 nights at this hotel. Again guides and hotel staff will be happy to provide suggestions for places we can go for dinner.
Day nine October 28th We will be collected for a full day tour. This tour will visit Lord of the Rings/Hobbit filming locations around Queenstown (Arrowtown, Kawarau, 12 Mile DElta, Wakatipu, Glenrochy and Mt. Aspiring National Park) This does include a restaurant lunch.
Day nine October 29th we will be picked up for a half day Safari of the Scenes - Glenorchy Tour. For true Lord of the Rings fans, this is the trip where Nomad Safaris really does take us There and Back again. This scenic sightseeing tour takes us from Queenstown to Glenorchy stopping at breath-taking viewpoints. En route from Glenorchy follow the Dart River to the spectacular filming location for Isengard. This location offers stunning views of Mt. Earnslaw. Heading to Paradise discover the location for the Forrest of Lothlorien. Leaving Glenorchy and heading towards Queenstown you will stop at 12 Mile Delta to explore the location of the Ithilien Camp. The Safari of the Scenes - Glenorchy also includes locations from Xmen Origins: Wolverine, and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Day ten October 30th we will be collected by coah to transfer to Te Anau where we can board a boat to explore Fiordland National Park for approximately 75 minutes. Far from the crowds found elsewhere, journey from the glistening lakefront in Te Anau to the quiet banks of the Waiau River, travelling the waters as far as the deserted shores of Lake Manapouri. Experience a hidden world framed by solemn mountains and wild forest, steeped in natural beauty and history. Embrace a rare opportunity to emerge ourselves in the remote isolation of Fiordland National Park - famous for its conservation efforts and one of the largest protected areas in the world. Pause in the otherwordly yet familiar places, made famous by scenes in Lord of the Rings; disembark and explore the native bush beyond the beach, lose track of time listening to the rare birdlife, spotting the Rainbow and Brown Trout in the crystal clear waters and breathing in the ancient beech forest when your guide quiets the engine for a spell to let the current take over.
Day eleven October 31st enjoy the day at leisure exploring Queenstown on our own. In the evening a coach will pick us up for transfer to the Skyline Gondola Restaurant. The cableway leaves every few minutes and takes approximately ten minutes to reach the top. Recently redesigned and extended to give even more expansive views with unsurpassed facilities, the Skyline Gondola, Restaurant and Luge complex sits high about Queenstown on Bob's peak, 790m above sea level. We will take the cableway to the top. The gondola consists of an Austrian Doppelmayer system with a vertical rise of 450m and an incline of 37.1 degrees it carries 700 people per hour in four seater cabins. Dinner in the restaurant offers a tempting six course "Taste of New Zealand" buffet in a relaxed atmosphere. A tiered seating design and floor to ceiling windows allows an unhindered view of the Wakatipu panorama. The restaurant is fully licensed and has live entertainment every evening. After dinner we return via the Cableway to our coach for transfer back to the hotel.
Day twelve Nov 1st we will be picked up by a coach and taken to the airport to catch a return flight home.
The land portion of this tour costs $8215.20 CAD per person based on double occupancy. A $200 CAD per person non refundable deposit is required. If you do your deposit in May and then do 15 payments until August 15th 2020 of $534.35 CAD you can pay the vacation off. We can not quote airfare until about a year out. So airfare both for the international portion and the inter country flights would be additional.
